After selecting our preferred theme, we needed to determine the placement of various content types. It was crucial to identify the most suitable locations for different elements within the theme and prioritize the attendees' needs for the events and festival. Given that purchasing tickets, attending events, and making donations were vital for the festival's success, these elements had to be prominently displayed at the top of the homepage.
Having completed my wireframes and decided on the arrangement of various content types for the website, I was prepared to pass my designs to a web developer for implementation on WordPress. I assisted our web developer in initiating the process by selecting a website builder to get started. Upon researching, I discovered that Elementor Pro was an excellent choice. Leveraging our team's collective efforts and individual expertise, we succeeded in creating a website that is more accessible, user-friendly, and aesthetically refined. We achieved our goal!
Original Design
In the design of the digital wireframes, accurately replicating each section of the WordPress theme was crucial at the beginning of this process, considering the festival's President would be making regular updates. It was at this stage that we began to identify our priorities and decide on the content for various sections of the website and the available widgets. As the development progressed, we adjusted the different widgets to optimize the website's layout, removing any unnecessary sections. We continuously refined the design, informed by ongoing discussions, to customize the website that would best fit for the attendees.
Considering her limited experience with WordPress and time constraints, we decided that only three main pages need to be designed prior to development. These include the homepage, an internal page (which will be used consistently across the website for uniform updates), and an events page.

The aim was not to engage in lengthy discussions or to craft a perfect solution, but rather to make swift decisions, secure commitment, and strategically act within the constraints of time and budget.
After careful consideration of our website development strategy, we determined that choosing a WordPress theme is crucial. The Ojai Film Festival website requires frequent updates due to various events and news articles, and they lack a full-time designer. Utilizing a WordPress theme will allow for regular updates to the website without the need for extra design assistance.

Presenting the various sponsorship levels, such as Presenting, Premier, and Supporting, is also essential information that emerged from my research. Competitors frequently use charts to display various data points regarding their reach. We ultimately decided to add an appendix to showcase what would be included in the festival and to highlight additional opportunities.

After having a great collaboration with a web developer and communicating with Katie Guernsey, the president of the Ojai film festival, we were able to create a flawless end product. She was able to give me honest and valuable feedback. Her involvement was crucial for collecting the necessary information to be integrated into the website. Since I am not well-versed in all the technical aspects of creating a WordPress site, I found that some concepts would have been a challenge to implement. I was extremely grateful to have a web developer assist us with this specific project. His expertise was much needed in helping us achieve our goal. I also want to give a shoutout to Bash for helping us get the reach stats for the sponsorship kit that I had designed previously. I also want to thank them for featuring us in their weekly newsletter!
A learning point: Always be open to feedback and clearly communicate the specific goals of each exercise, as well as the reasons for doing things in a certain way. Since Katie was unfamiliar with WordPress, it was necessary to design it so that she could make frequent updates. It benefits her and her team over time.
